Formed in 2010, the PHI Network – Ibero-American Historical and Cultural Heritage is an international network that, through the digital dissemination of research conducted by students and faculty, aims to develop a strategic approach—diagnosis, reflection, and proposals—regarding this shared heritage. The University of Coimbra, through the Department of Architecture at the Faculty of Science and Technology, is one of the founding institutions of this network.
On April 28, 2014, a seminar was held at the Casa da Escrita in Coimbra, marking the foundation of the PHI Portugal Network. This event brought together the School of Architecture of the University of Minho, the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto, the Escola Superior Artística do Porto, the Architecture Program at ISCTE-IUL, and the Department of Architecture at Instituto Superior Técnico.
In November 2015, the Department of Architecture at FCTUC organized an International Meeting of the PHI Network, which took place in Coimbra on the 18th, 19th, and 20th.
Both events, in April and November, are now documented in this issue of JOELHO – Journal of Architectural Culture.
The journal also features the exhibition República: Architecture, University, and City, which showcases the work developed during the International Architecture Workshop on Student Housing and Urban Rehabilitation. This workshop was held as part of the PHI Portugal Network Meeting and the Project IV and Urban Project I courses of the Integrated Master’s in Architecture at the University of Coimbra.
