Lisbon, 30 September 2025 – The Last Lesson of Alexandre Quintanilha, authored by Francisco Sena Santos and Clara Almeida Santos, will be presented at the Department of Life Sciences, University of Coimbra (DCV-UC).
The book explores Alexandre Quintanilha’s life and legacy, from his childhood in Mozambique, through his scientific research in the United States, to his return to Portugal, where he founded the Institute for Molecular and Cell Biology and i3S.
It shares personal and professional memories, reflecting on science, politics, curiosity, and human dignity, as well as public debates on assisted dying, climate change, and drug addiction.
"A professor’s last lesson is not a class," say the authors, preserving Quintanilha’s critical and humanist thinking.
Available in bookstores from 9 October.
