Presentation
The Bachelor in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (LIACD) aims to train highly qualified professionals with a solid grounding in the fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science.
The course provides robust theoretical training and practical skills essential for practising the profession, as well as for pursuing advanced studies such as master's degrees and doctorates. LIACD enables its graduates to design and implement solutions based on data and artificial intelligence, with application to complex problems, as well as supporting the development of intelligent systems in multidisciplinary environments.
Curriculum Plan
The LIACD is a 1st cycle course lasting 3 years, corresponding to 6 academic semesters, totalling 180 ECTS and 4860 estimated contact hours.
The curricular structure is made up of:
- 28 compulsory curricular units, organised into a common core (168 ECTS);
- 1 Project in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (12 ECTS), developed in the last semester, where the student is challenged to apply the knowledge acquired in an integrated way, facing problems of real complexity and scale.
Each semester typically includes 5 curricular units of 6 ECTS, with the exception of the last one, which consists of 3 curricular units of 6 ECTS and the final project of 12 ECTS.
The curriculum plan covers:
- Mathematical foundations (statistics, optimisation, linear algebra, numerical methods);
- Data engineering and preparation;
- Visualisation and exploratory data analysis;
- Machine learning and artificial intelligence (including neural networks, probabilistic models and deep learning);
- Infrastructure and support systems for Data Science, with a focus on reliability, scalability and performance;
- Ethics and social impact of artificial intelligence and data use.
Teaching is carried out by a highly qualified scientific teaching staff, who are part of research centres of excellence and have strong links to research projects and international cooperation.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
LIACD provides in-depth training in mathematical methods, algorithms and intelligent systems, preparing students for:
- Further studies, with emphasis on the Master's in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science;
- Professional activities in the design, development and operationalisation of solutions based on AI and Data Science;
- Support for multidisciplinary teams in the development of intelligent systems and large-scale data analysis.
The course is positioned as a specialised and vertical degree, clearly distinguishing itself from informatics engineering degrees, which follow a more transversal and generalist training model.
