Master in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science

Presentation

A specialist in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science is a professional in the field of artificial intelligence/computational learning with specific skills to analyze, design and implement advanced services and solutions based on artificial intelligence for the collection, modeling, storage, management and analysis of (massive) data as a relevant resource for decision-making and the automation of intelligent processes, such as using Generative AI for the automatic generation of text, images and video, or autonomous navigation. It's a growing and cross-cutting need in modern societies, covering sectors as diverse as e-commerce, health, transport, energy management and industry. For more information on salaries in Europe, we suggest consulting the “European Data Salary Benchmark 2023” report, and in the US we suggest consulting this page.

The main aim of the Master's Degree in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (MIACD) is to provide future specialists with the theoretical knowledge, techniques and technological skills that will enable them to analyze, design and develop advanced Artificial Intelligence and Computational Learning applications and methodologies, as well as to design and implement the necessary support infrastructures.

MIACD's central strategy is to provide real-life contexts that bring students into contact with typical constraints, highlighting the potential but also the limitations of the different methodologies. In this way, students will be prepared not only to pursue advanced studies at doctoral level, but also to practice their profession, acquiring the ability to design new products and services, both in terms of support infrastructures and advanced artificial intelligence methodologies.

Why become an expert in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science?

Did you know...

  • The global Artificial Intelligence market is expected to grow by 37% annually over the next few years?
  • Artificial Intelligence is expected to create 133 million new jobs by 2030?
  • Artificial Intelligence is expected to contribute more than 15.7 trillion dollars to the global economy by 2030?
  • Generative AI is the most popular AI technology, with 51% of companies using this technology for content generation, customer support and process automation?

Curriculum Plan

The MIACD is a 2nd cycle degree course with a duration of 2 years and is organized into 4 academic semesters, corresponding to 120 ECTS. The course has a curricular structure that includes a common body of 10 subjects (60 ECTS), a set of 3 open-option curricular units (corresponding to 18 ECTS) and a dissertation/internship (42 ECTS).

The optional courses allow students to acquire knowledge in other areas of interest, namely in the application of artificial intelligence and data science concepts in specific application areas. The course Topics in Data Science serves as a bridging course for students who need this training. The list of curricular units will be reviewed on an annual basis (in order to maintain scientific relevance and multiple application areas), and students should choose from the set defined in each edition.

The offer is structured around a set of compulsory curricular units that introduce knowledge and develop advanced disciplinary skills in the fields of artificial intelligence and data science, their advanced technologies and their transversal applications, such as data mining and generative artificial intelligence, and a wide range of curricular units that provide a strong interdisciplinary character by introducing skills in specific application domains.
