The Jardim Monte Formoso environmental project is putting together a team of volunteers, open to the entire academic community. Registration is now open, as announced on September 1.
The flower beds located between the UC Physics Department and Chemistry Department aim to become more colorful. In line with its commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the enhancement of natural heritage, the University of Coimbra recently formalized a cooperation agreement with the Jardim Monte Formoso environmental project.
The partnership aims to involve the academic community in the regeneration of spaces through volunteering, environmental awareness, and hands-on learning. The goal is to reintroduce native species, contributing to the preservation of native Portuguese flora and promoting biodiversity and well-being through low environmental impact solutions, such as the use of ollas (traditional infiltration irrigation systems).
The first action will take place on November 8, with the recovery and revitalization of flower beds located between the UC Physics Department and Chemistry Department, contributing to the knowledge and appreciation of Portugal's natural heritage and promoting the values of environmental sustainability and the functionality and enjoyment of public spaces.
To this end, the Jardim Monte Formoso environmental project is putting together a team of volunteers, open to the entire academic community. Tasks include cleaning and removing invasive species; planting, sowing, and transplanting; watering and maintenance; and observing and recording the evolution of species.
Registration is available here.
