Materialities of Literature

MATLIT: Materialities of Literature is an open access, peer-reviewed, online journal published by Coimbra University Press and the Centre for Portuguese Literature at the University of Coimbra. The journal addresses the material and technological mediations of literary practices, with a particular focus on printness, digitality, aurality, and intermediality. The research fields covered by the journal extend from literary studies to comparative media studies and to digital humanities. MATLIT uses the following working languages: Portuguese, English and Spanish. Adopting an interdisciplinary and transmedia perspective, the journal is organized into thematic issues. Each issue has its own Call for Papers.

MATLIT uses the management, editing and publication functionalities of the Open Journal Systems software and is installed on the servers of Coimbra University Press. The journal has a distinguished international Advisory Board, a peer review system, and guest editors for thematic issues. This open access online journal is published both in PDF and HTML formats. To a large extent, professors and students of the FCT PhD Programme in Materialities of Literature are in charge of the management and production of the journal. This collaboration provides a training opportunity for doctoral candidates, who become familiar with current practices of online scholarship. The main goal of MATLIT is to develop this new research field and foster intersections between the «Digital Mediation and Materialities of Literature» Research Group of the Centre for Portuguese Literature and other national and international experts and projects in related fields.
