Fabrication of light responsive and multifunctional dental implant for the treatment of peri-implant diseasesLightImplant - Fabrication of light responsive and multifunctional dental implant for the treatment of peri-implant diseases |
Abstract
Dental implants are widely accepted as reconstructive treatment to replace missing or damaged teeth. The success of dental implants depends on the rapid soft tissue proliferation and integration around the implants, which prevent the bacterial penetration and infection. The bacterial infection leads to inflammation in gingiva followed by bone loss, which is called peri-implant diseases. The implant failure due to peri-implantitis has been increasing at significant rate of 8%, which corresponds to more than 1 million failures globally.
The main objective of the LightImplant project was to develop light-responsive and multifunctional dental implant coated to control inflammation and promote the rapid proliferation of soft tissues and bone around implants using the remotely controlled manner.
