Researchers Raquel Boia, Mónica Zuzarte and Luísa Carreira (iCBR-FMUC/CIBB) were recently on the island of Madeira to promote science communication to children and young people and to take part in the annual congress of SciComPT - Portugal's Science and Technology Communication Network.

The visit began on April 8 with activities at the Fundação Nossa Senhora da Conceição do Funchal. The initiatives were aimed at different age groups and had the goals of awakening interest in science and promoting the adoption of healthy behaviors. For children aged 3 to 5, the activity “A Happy Heart” was organized, which dealt with the workings of the heart in a playful and interactive way. Participants aged between 7 and 17 were invited to explore the mysteries of the brain with the session “How does our brain work?”.

In the following days, between April 9 and 11, the three researchers took part in the SciComPT 2025 congress, presenting communications that highlight the importance of scientific communication and dissemination to different audiences. Raquel Boia presented the communication “Fala-me Neuro and the art of communicating neuroscience: from rural to digital”, focusing on the dissemination of neuroscience in different social contexts. Mónica Zuzarte and Luísa Carreira shared their experience of disseminating and communicating a scientific project with the presentation “From Discovery to Dialogue: how communication complements science”.

Their presence in Madeira reinforces the researchers' commitment to promoting scientific knowledge that is accessible and adapted to all ages, as well as the valorization of science as an engine for dialogue with society.
