Institutional Context and Collaboration
The work of ChronCog is supported by competitive funding from organizations such as the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) and the Bial Foundation.
The laboratory also brings together researchers from multiple research groups within the Center for Research in Neuropsychology and Cognitive Behavioral Intervention (CINEICC), mainly from the CBPI and NAAP lines, functioning as a collaborative research space between these groups. An example of this collaboration is the True Times project (a four-year project funded by FCT), which brought together researchers from both CINEICC lines.
Members of ChronCog also develop partnerships with researchers and professionals from other national and international institutions, as evidenced by co-authorships in scientific publications and research projects.
Our institutional framework also allows us to promote the development of advanced research skills among professionals and early-career researchers. In this context, Master’s and PhD students actively participate in the scientific projects carried out at ChronCog. The laboratory has supported several doctoral projects and dozens of Master’s theses (more than 20 already completed).
In addition, ChronCog has integrated undergraduate and Master’s students from the University of Coimbra through research integration grants or within the framework of Research Project courses. Within its projects, the laboratory has also hosted professional internships in psychology, including the junior year internship of the Portuguese Psychologists Association (e.g., Daniela Almeida, Maria Inês Clara, Soraia, Catarina Bettencourt).
The laboratory also participates in international scientific mobility initiatives. Recently, it hosted PhD student Federica Guidetti from the University of Bologna as part of an incoming mobility program, under the supervision of Vincenzo Natale, director of Cronolab – Applied Chronopsychology Laboratory.
In turn, ChronCog researchers have undertaken short- and medium-term research stays in European institutions, including the participation of Luís Pires in the Sleep Science School of the European Sleep Research Society in Fréjus (France), the research stay of Inês Clara at University College Cork (Ireland), and the stay of Ana Allen Gomes at the University of Bologna (Italy), where she taught an 8-hour module in the doctoral and postdoctoral psychology research seminar.
In addition to the scientific publications and awards highlighted on this page, ChronCog researchers regularly participate in international conferences, including meetings of the European Sleep Research Society and the World Sleep Society.
Finally, members of the laboratory have contributed to the development and adaptation for Portugal of several validated psychological assessment instruments, such as the ucMOT – Month Ordering Task and the Insomnia Severity Index (ISI). Additionally, an intervention program recently registered at the University of Coimbra, OncoSleep, was developed within the laboratory.
