The inaugural seminar of the Online Seminar Cycle: Innovative Therapies in Machado-Joseph Disease and Other Hereditary Ataxias: From the Laboratory to the Patient will take place online on 25 June at 4pm.

The speaker is Joana Damásio, Neurologist at the ULS de Santo António, Porto, will present the topic: Neuromodulation of the cerebellum: what studies are there?

This seminar is free, and registration is mandatory.

Biography of Joana Damásio

Joana Damásio is a hospital assistant with a degree in Neurology from the Santo António University Hospital Centre and manager of the Neurology outpatient clinic. She is particularly dedicated to the study and treatment of movement disorders, with an emphasis on hereditary cerebellar ataxias.

She holds a PhD in Medical Sciences from the Abel Salazar Institute of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Porto, where she conducted her research in the field of hereditary ataxias. At ICBAS, she is also an assistant in the Clinical Neurosciences Course Unit and is a member of the Genetic Epidemiology and Epigenetics research group of the Multidisciplinary Biomedical Research Unit, collaborating on several projects focused on hereditary ataxias.

He is currently president of the Portuguese Society for Movement Disorders. At the international level, he is a member of the scientific panel on neurogenetics at the European Academy of Neurology, the ataxia study group at the Movement Disorders Society, as well as the Statutes Committee and Editorial Board of the latter society's website.
