Digitisation of Timor-Leste specimens
We are digitizing the specimens from Timor-Leste as part of a collaboration on the UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme) project “Establishing the National framework and operational capacity to implement the Nagoya Protocol in Timor-Leste”, funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF). This project will support the creation of databases that will help guide future research activities in Timor-Leste.
The collaboration of the Herbarium of the University of Coimbra aims to disseminate biodiversity data found in herbarium specimens collected in Timor-Leste. For this purpose, images of the speciemens were captured, and their transcription will be done by volunteers on our citizen science platform EXPLORATOR. Anyone can collaborate on the transcription, no specific knowledge or experience is required: https://coicatalogue.uc.pt/explorator/projects/21.
All data will be available on our data portal and GBIF as it gets validated.
