Advanced Course: Experimental Research Design & Responsible Research Practices
This advanced course, developed by the Doctoral Programme in Experimental Biology and Biomedicine, offers an excellent opportunity for students to develop critical skills in experimental design, data analysis, research integrity, and open science.
The course is designed to set students up for success by preparing them to develop their PhD projects, which they typically defend later in the year, and which will form the core of their theses. Students will learn about modern scientific methods and how to design solid experimental setups for various settings: in vitro, with living organisms (in vivo), or in studies involving humans (clinical trials and studies on derived data or samples). The course will also raise awareness for important topics like the "replication crisis" in science and why research integrity and ethics are so crucial. Beyond the theory, students will get practical experience with biostatistics, data management, and data visualization, and instructors will show how to embrace open science practices and ensure their research is reproducible. The main goal is to equip students with the essential skills to plan, carry out, analyze, and share high-quality, ethical, and impactful research, laying a strong foundation for their entire PhD journeys.
Don’t miss this opportunity to build a strong foundation for your PhD journey!
