Sharing Science at UC

The initiative Sharing Science at UC: SciComm in Practice aims to create a space for exchange and reflection among research and development units at the University of Coimbra on science communication practices.

In a context where science communication plays an increasingly important role in connecting research and society, this initiative seeks to give visibility to the work developed at UC, promote the exchange of experiences between units, and encourage a more integrated and strategic approach to science communication.

Online Seminar Series

A series of monthly online seminars (see Agenda below) will feature different research and development units from UC.

Each session will include:

• Presentation of the science communication initiatives and practices from the invited unit
• A short testimonial from a researcher involved in these activities, reflecting on their impact on their scientific and professional trajectory

The series will also serve as a space for alignment and preparation for the activities of the European Researchers’ Night (ERN), promoting the recognition and diversity of science communication practices at UC.

Kick-off Event

The initiative will begin with an in-person event on April 17th, from 10 am to 12 pm, at the RÓMULO Ciência Center of the University of Coimbra, dedicated to the role of science communication as a strategic dimension of research institutions.

The event will feature a keynote lecture by Prof. Massimiano Bucchi (University of Trento, Italy), an internationally recognized expert in science communication, followed by a round table discussion with Dr. Joana Ferreira (MIA-Portugal) and Prof. Paulo Oliveira (CNC-UC, CiBB). The session will foster a critical reflection on the current state of science communication and its future developments within the academic context.

This opening event aims to initiate a discussion on science communication beyond dissemination, highlighting its relevance for researcher training, research impact, and the relationship between universities and society.
