The Scientific Council shall be responsible for:
a) To propose or pronounce itself on the creation of activities that contribute to the pursuit of the purposes and aims of the IIIUC
b) Formalize and update, when necessary, the concept of interdisciplinarity;
c) Appreciate the IIIUC scientific activities plan and report;
d) To pronounce itself on the creation of Courses and Third Cycle Programmes, to approve the plans of the studies cyclesand to promote the procedures that lead to the granting of a PhD degree by the University of Coimbra;
e) Propose the composition of selection boards for the tests in the courses referred at point d);
f) To decide, in agreement with the teacher´s units origin, the distribution of the teaching service, which requires the Director's approval;
g) Propose or pronounce about the institution of scientific prizes and school awards;
h) Pronouce its opinion about the proposal to dismiss the Director, provided at nº 3 of 19th Article of the IIIUC Statutes, before it is referred to the Rector;
i) Developing its regiment;
j) Set up permanent or possible structures, such as Specialised Committees, to examine specific issues within the purposes and aims of IIIUC;
k) Perform functions that are assigned by law or by the Statutes of the IIIUC.
