Dates: from 14 to 24 June 2024
The BIP - Road-based Tourism Routes: paths to territorial Cohesion, Sustainable Tourism and heritage Enhancement, organized by Prof. Doutor Carlos Ferreira of the Faculty of Letters / Department of Geography and Tourism will take place at the University of Coimbra from 14 to 24 June 2024.
The Program aims to combine different perspectives and approaches on the implementation of tourist routes based on roads, namely those of greater extension and, therefore, of greater notoriety and impact, as examples are Route 66 (USA), Route 40 (Argentina), EN2 (Portugal), the Ruta de la Plata (Spain), the Nasjonale turistveger (Norway) or the NC500 (Scotland). The case studies will serve not only to understand the different rationale and management/implementation models, but will also testify to the multifaceted role that these routes can play in rural and less developed regions: contributing to strengthening territorial cohesion; sustainable tourism development; appreciation of heritage resources.
Target Audience: Students of higher education (1st, 2nd and 3rd cycles) and young researchers from the following scientific or related areas: geography, tourism, economics, management, sociology, marketing, cultural and heritage studies, territory studies.
