European Campus of City-Universities - EC2U

The EC2U - European Campus of City-Universities is a multicultural and multilingual alliance composed of eight universities with a long-standing tradition in education and research, with both local and global outreach, being located in four distinct regions of the European Union.
The EC2U alliance was formally established through a memorandum of understanding signed in 2018 by the Rectors of the University of Coimbra, Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iași (Romania), the University of Pavia (Italy), the University of Poitiers (France) – the coordinating institution, the University of Salamanca (Spain), the University of Turku (Finland) and Friedrich Schiller University of Jena (Germany).
Following a successful pilot stage, the EC2U is currently consolidating this European-scale university campus, after having secured €14.4 million through its application to the 2023 European Universities initiative, promoted by the European Comission.
In addition to the eight universities that currently compose the EC2U, the aliance has also an associated partner, the University of Lviv (Ukrain), since 2022.
The EC2U alliance is a community comprising over 200,000 students, 25,000 academic, research and technical staff members, as well as 57 associated partners, with direct access to more than 1,730,000 citizens.
