Online workshop: Building the LUMEN infrastructure for Semantics (LUMIS) together
The LUMEN project, integrated by the University of Coimbra, is developing the LUMIS infrastructure for Semantics, an initiative that promotes the creation, sharing, and maintenance of FAIR-by-design Semantic Artefacts (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable). As part of this effort, an online workshop dedicated to co-designing the platform will take place on September 4. The event will bring together specialists such as ontologists and taxonomists to collaborate on the development of this innovative tool, which will support their work with semantic artefacts. Registrations are now open and can be made through this link.
The LUMIS infrastructure – LUMEN for Semantics has been designed as an innovative workspace that integrates and connects open-source tools into a coherent workflow, inspired by the principles of continuous integration and continuous development. This environment will allow users to monitor the status of various semantic artefacts, addressing aspects such as quality, compliance with FAIR principles, governance, and more. Additionally, LUMIS will support both the creation of FAIR-by-design artefacts and the FAIRification of existing artefacts.
Interactive Workshop
The online workshop will provide a unique opportunity for specialists in the field to contribute directly to the platform's development. During the session, participants will share practices, identify challenges, and define essential needs and priorities. Whether working with SKOS taxonomies (Simple Knowledge Organisation System) or OWL ontologies (Web Ontology Language), participants' contributions will be crucial to ensuring the platform meets the practical needs of the community.
Workshop Objectives
- Gain valuable insights into current workflows and methodologies used in the development of SKOS taxonomies and OWL ontologies.
- Gather concrete requirements and user stories from various disciplines.
- Define priorities and resources needed for the future of the LUMIS infrastructure.
- Engage with the community, identifying potential collaborators and testers for the platform's development.
Who Should Participate?
The workshop is aimed at ontologists, taxonomists, and semantic data specialists dedicated to building and maintaining high-quality FAIR semantic artefacts. This is an opportunity to directly shape a tool designed to meet the evolving needs of the community.
