We have previously mentioned here the deposit at BGUC of the photographs from the travelling exhibition 17 de Abril in 1969. On 18 August 1969, the student Carlos Valente, who had collected the exhibition in Porto, arrived in Coimbra to find the AAC – Associação Académica (Coimbra Students’ Union) building closed by government order. Following a suggestion previously discussed by the Photography Section collective, he moved all the material he had to the General Library. Had these items remained at the Photography Section when the AAC headquarters were closed by the police, all the photographs would have been lost, as indeed happened to some of the negatives. During their display in Porto, graffiti was daubed on a photograph of Education Minister José Hermano Saraiva—a mark that remains in the collection to this day.
