This item is part of a collection of 12 matchboxes featuring various illustrations supporting political prisoners. Messages such as “No to war,” “Free press,” “Freedom,” “Political prisoners,” “Democracy,” “Down with monopolies,” “Agrarian reform,” “Equality,” and “Peace” appeared on these objects.
All matchboxes consist of small vignettes, handcrafted and glued onto commercially purchased matchboxes. The vignettes, issued by the National Committee for the Defense of Political Prisoners (CNSPP), were used to raise funds to support political prisoners and their families.
