STRATEGIC REFERENCE FRAMEWORK

Since the strategy will only succeed if it is implemented with people and for people, and people are the most important asset of an organisation and the most important component of the adopted strategy, they assume a prominent place in the new strategic reference framework. In the new dynamic model, the “People” aspect is serving as a central axis of the movement of the strategic mission pillars and, consequently, of the workings of the University of Coimbra.

The Research & Innovation, Teaching and Societal Challenges mission pillars, which are directly related to the core goals of the University of Coimbra, are intersected by the relevant mission pillar Internationalisation, thus endeavouring to achieve a greater global recognition. The mission axes correspond to the necessary resources to achieve the aforementioned core goals, and, in addition to People, they include the Quality, Facilities, Funding and Communication aspects.

The UC assertion in levels of excellence presupposes the adoption of a perspective of sustainable management of its activities and resources, and of social responsibility in its performance, which enables it to respond to the present needs without compromising the future, by strengthening awareness and civic action. Therefore, Sustainability and Social Responsibility represent cross-cutting attitudes, behaviours and actions in the UC that are always present in all its activity areas, and have a prominent role in the 2019-2023 Strategic Plan.
