Reaction to fire: Single burning item test
Assessment of the burning behaviour and spread of flame of vertically mounted specimens (in a right angle) exposed to thermal attack by a single burning item (SBI).
The single burning item test (also known as SBI), whose test procedure is described in EN 13823:2020, aims to evaluate the heat release rate, the flame propagation rate, the smoke production rate, among other parameters, of vertically mounted specimens (in a right angle) exposed to thermal direct attack by flames and thermal radiation (from a secondary burner). In this test, the fire growth rate indices (FIGRA), the smoke growth rate index (SMOGRA) and the total heat release are calculated. Flame spread and burning droplets/particles are visually observed.
