Taxonomic identification of microalgae and cyanobacteria

ACOI can identify strains of algae at the level of genus and sometimes species, using microscopy and molecular biology techniques. Some strains have characteristics that allow identification to the level of the genus only by light microscopy.

The culture does not have to be axenic, but it must be unialgal and free of other eukaryotic organisms (protists and fungi). For best results, we request that the culture predominantly consists of the algal strain in question.
