On 6 May 2025, the Research Seminar of the PhD in Intercultural Relations at the Open University of Portugal will take place — a space for exchanging knowledge, practices and ongoing research, fostering scientific debate and the collective construction of knowledge.

We highlight the participation of researcher and PhD candidate Nidia Ponte from the Societies and Environmental Sustainability Research Group at the Centre for Functional Ecology – Science for People & the Planet, Terra Associated Laboratory at the University of Coimbra, and its extension at the Open University of Portugal. She will present a paper stemming from her PhD research in Intercultural Relations, under the supervision of Fátima Alves and Diogo Guedes Vidal:

  • Promoting Intercultural Dialogue in Healthcare: Reflections on the Systematic Review Process of Strategies to Address Climate Change-Related Health Challenges.”

In her talk, Nidia critically reflects on intercultural strategies in healthcare settings, exploring how the response to climate change demands approaches sensitive to cultural diversity and epistemic justice. Her contribution emerges from a key gap in the literature: how can intercultural communication and healthcare responses be effectively articulated in the face of climate crises? Through a critical and reflexive lens, the study interrogates the role of systematic reviews in shaping scientific knowledge and mediating care practices within multicultural contexts.
