The EUROPE-LAND project starts from the recognition that profound changes in public policies and in the decisions of multiple actors are needed in order to respond effectively to the threats posed by climate change and to the challenges associated with biodiversity conservation. Its central objective is to improve decision-making on land use and land management in Europe, so as to reduce both climate impacts and pressures on biodiversity. To this end, the project integrates natural and social sciences in the development of a set of tools that will support decision-makers and other stakeholders in making more informed choices and in increasing awareness of the implications of land use. In parallel, it uses advanced monitoring techniques to study land use patterns in different European contexts.
