Rules for Requesting Teaching Collaboration

(does not preclude reference to the legislation in force)

I. Teaching staff with an exclusive contract are aware that they are entitled to provide their teaching services free of charge only in private and cooperative higher education institutions.

II. Collaborative activities carried out within the framework of a cooperation protocol with the target organisation are institutional. Overheads will be deducted according to the table below. If the agreed hourly rate differs from the one indicated in this table, the overhead will be applied according to the percentage derived from it, i.e. 33.33% (see Annex I).

III. In order to calculate the "average annual value of three hours per week per semester" established in article 7, paragraph 4, point e) of Decree-Law No. 57/2016 of 29 August, 15 weeks per semester must be taken into account, concerning the academic calendar of the University of Coimbra, excluding the examination period and school holidays, per the Rector's Order of 28 January 2021;

IV. In the case of cooperation between higher education institutions, the request for cooperation must be formalised institutionally between their highest governing bodies and is subject, in addition to the provisions of the applicable legislation, to the existence of a proper cooperation protocol and an agreement between the parties before the beginning of each academic year or semester. This agreement must specify in particular the lecturer(s)/researcher(s), the costs involved, the duration, and the weekly workload. The collaboration/external activity may not commence until it has been approved by the Rector of the UC. If the remuneration resulting from the collaboration/external activity is processed by the UC due to legal/regulatory requirements or at the request of the staff member, overheads and other unspecified legal deductions will be withheld.
