CLEONICE BRARDINELLI (DoB. 1916), emeritus professor at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, is a distinguished figure of the Brazilian university and dean of Portuguese studies in the world. Her teaching in the field of Language and Literature was held at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and at the Pontifical Catholic University. She has left a deep influence in many generations of teachers who have kept interest in Portuguese culture alive in Brazil. Among her vast bibliography, the works she has dedicated to Gil Vicente, Luís de Camões and Fernando Pessoa stand out.

She supervised more than half a hundred doctoral theses. She is a member of the Brazilian Academy of Letters and Humanities and is a corresponding partner of the Lisbon Academy of Sciences. She was honoured with the Commendation of the Order of Infante D. Henrique, the Commendation of the Order of Santiago da Espada and the Grand Cross of the Order of Santiago da Espada.
