Researcher and professor Paulo Rocha, from the Centre for Functional Ecology (CFE) of FCTUC, and principal investigator of an ERC Starting Grant project, has been awarded a grant by the European Research Council (ERC) under the Proof of Concept scheme.
His project, entitled “Porous sensors for real-time monitoring of water quality risks” (PROTEGE), aims to enhance and transfer to the market the excellent research results previously achieved within the scope of his project “Generating Energy from Electroactive Algae” (GREEN).
PROTEGE’S main objective is to test a functional prototype capable of detecting in real-time the presence of cyanobacteria and pathogenic bacteria in water.
The Proof of Concept grant is designed to support outstanding researchers, already funded by the ERC, in the commercialisation or societal application of the results of their frontier research.
