Applications are open for the 5th transnational call of the European Partnership Biodiversa+ - European Biodiversity Partnership -, which aims to fund transnational research and innovation (R&I) projects on biodiversity with impact on policy and society. The theme of this edition is “Restoration of ecosystem functioning, integrity, and connectivity”, referred to as BiodivConnect.

This call aims to promote innovative research that can be integrated into nature restoration practices, focusing on interconnected and well-functioning ecosystems and habitats, with particular attention to long-term sustainability and future-proofing of restoration efforts at scales from local to regional to cross-border and global, including their evaluation.

Projects must demonstrate academic excellence and have the potential for social and political impact at the local, regional and/or global level in the field of biodiversity, aiming to connect science, society, policy, and practice for transformative change. Proposals should also demonstrate significant transnational added value and interdisciplinarity, involving, where appropriate, multiple scientific disciplines.

Applications must address at least one of the following topics:

  • Topic 1: Setting restoration targets and measuring success
  • Topic 2: Scaling and transferability of nature restoration efforts
  • Topic 3: Long-term sustainability of restoration efforts

Each project consortium must include eligible partners from at least three different countries that financially participate in the call and request support from at least three different funding agencies, including eligible partners from at least two different EU Member States or Horizon Europe Associated Countries participating in the call.

The application process will take place in two stages: the submission of pre-proposals (1st phase) by 7 November 2025 (11:00, Lisbon time); and the submission of full proposals (2nd phase) by 14 April 2026 (11:00, Lisbon time).

Portuguese entities will be funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), which will provide up to €125,000 for consortia with Portuguese participation and up to €200,000 for consortia coordinated by a Portuguese entity.
