Barbara Glowczewski is a French anthropologist and ethnologist specialising in Australian Aborigines. She is a research director at the CNRS (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique).
The author shows how the Aborigines ritualised the transformations imposed by colonisation in order to incorporate Western law into their ancestral law. This thesis challenges the assumption that Aboriginal societies have been relegated to a timeless past.
