University of Coimbra holds seminar on evacuation in rural fire scenarios
The seminar ‘Evacuation Decisions and Plans in Rural Fire Scenarios’ will be held on 24 January at the Civil Engineering Department at Polo II. The following day, an evacuation exercise will take place in the parish of Torres do Mondego.
On 24 January, the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Coimbra will hold a seminar entitled ‘Evacuation Decisions and Plans in Rural Fire Scenarios’, at the Department of Civil Engineering, at the University of Coimbra's Polo II. The following day, 25 January, an evacuation exercise will take place in the parish of Torres do Mondego.
On Friday 24 January, the morning programme includes lectures on topics such as evacuation strategies, risk management in rural fires and the use of simulation tools. In the afternoon, there will be a training course dedicated to the numerical programme Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS), given by Professor Jianping Zhang, from the University of Ulster.
On the morning of Saturday 25 January, an evacuation exercise is scheduled to take place in Ribeira da Misarela, in the parish of Torres do Mondego, in collaboration with Coimbra City Council, through the Municipal Civil Protection Service and the Parish Council. The exercise will include the participation of the National Republican Guard (GNR), the GNR's Protection and Relief Emergency Unit, the Coimbra Sapper Fire Brigade, the Coimbra Volunteer Fire Brigade, the Brasfemes Volunteer Fire Brigade and the Portuguese Red Cross.
