Laboratory units for the development of experiments focusing on aquatic organisms with controlled temperature, light and photoperiod. Culture rooms (30 m2 each) equipped with light, photoperiod, temperature, air and CO2 control filling several purposes namely environmental simulation studies, controlled experiments and species-specific studies. A Synoxis laboratory scale fully controlled photobioreactor and climate controlled incubators for biotechnology and ecology studies.
Optical, schlerochronological and analytical dry labs for teaching and research: microscopes and stereomicroscopes with HD digital cameras, fridge, -20°C and -80°C freezers, scales, spectrophotometer, incubator, analytical instruments, granulometry analysis. Algal processing and extraction laboratory for paste concentrates, powder and extracts preparation and characterization. These multipurpose labs can be used for species isolation, purification and identification, processing fish otolith, phytoplankton and other organisms images, nutrient analyses (amonia, phosphate, nitrites and nitrates) on water samples, grain size analyses and preparation of extracts for analysis.
General purpose wet laboratories to support aquaculture, ecotoxicology and ecological experiments, with controlled temperature, photoperiod and aeration. These rooms allow performing controlled experiments that manipulate ambient temperature and light conditions in marine plants, algae and invertebrates, using a set of small (3L), medium (20L; 60L) and large (200L) aquaria. Our lab facilites also include a closed chamber for additional experiments and an external chiller that enables multiple temperature treatments at the same time. Typical experiments include algal growth, bioturbation by invertebrates, and their interaction with pollutents and/or climate-driven parameters.
