The Coimbra Academic and Clinical Centre — Coimbra Health — has launched the Coimbra Health Global Voices Fellowships as part of its involvement with the World Health Summit Academic Alliance. The fellowships aim to support medical students and early-career doctors from Portuguese-speaking countries within the Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries (CPLP) to attend the upcoming World Health Summit in Berlin, taking place from 12 to 14 October 2025.

Each fellowship offers funding of up to €3,000 to cover travel and accommodation costs. One candidate will be selected from each of the following CPLP countries: Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, São Tomé and Príncipe, and Timor-Leste. Partner medical schools in each country will be responsible for selecting the fellows.

Interested applicants should submit their applications to avaldorio@uc.pt by 21 August 2025. Applications must include personal details (full name, date of birth, nationality, country of residence, email address and phone number), academic background (institution, course, year of study or graduation date), any relevant professional experience, and a motivation letter in which applicants should state their interest in the World Health Summit and how they plan to contribute to its discussions and activities.

In light of the underrepresentation of young health professionals from Portuguese-speaking countries at global health forums, Coimbra Health has established these fellowships to provide a platform for them to share their unique insights and enrich the discussions and outcomes of this significant international event. This initiative also demonstrates Coimbra Health’s commitment to promoting equity in global health leadership and developing the skills of aspiring health professionals in Portuguese-speaking countries.
