Experts gather at the University of Coimbra to discuss the future of neuroscience research

The 3rd edition of “Seeing and Acting Workshop: Functional and Neural Perspectives” will take place from 25 to 27 September at the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of the University of Coimbra.

The University of Coimbra (UC) is hosting the scientific event 'SAW - Seeing and Acting Workshop: Functional and Neural Perspectives', from 25 to 27 September at the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of the University of Coimbra, bringing together renowned international experts to discuss the latest scientific advances in cognitive neuroscience.

The workshop will provide a forum for experts, researchers and students to discuss ongoing projects, future collaborations and research in cognitive neuroscience, supported by the ERA Chair Cogbooster, a €2.5 million project funded by the European Commission to enhance the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of the University of Coimbra (FPCEUC) as a leading centre for research and teaching in cognitive neuroscience.

The event will feature as invited speakers renowned experts in brain perception and action, whose research has shed new light on how the brain and mind work: Cristina Becchio, University Medical Centre Hamburg-Eppendorf (Germany); Marlene Behrmann, University of Pittsburgh (United States of America); Katja Doerschner, University of Giessen (Germany); Russell Epstein, University of Pennsylvania (United States of America); François Osiurak, University of Lyon (France); Marco Tamietto, University of Turin (Italy); and Wim Vanduffel, KU Leuven (Belgium).

The three-day event will take place in Building 1 of the UC Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences, and will also include scientific poster presentations by national and international students, early-career researchers, and postdoctoral researchers.

The members of the scientific committee are Alfonso Caramazza ; Jorge Almeida, professor and researcher at the University of Coimbra and coordinator of Cogbooster at UC; Paul Downing, Bangor University (UK); Mel Goodale, Western University (Canada); Zoe Kourtzi, University of Cambridge (UK); Angelika Lingnau, University of Regensburg (Germany); and Isabel Pavão Martins, University of Lisbon.

The event’s scientific committee includes Alfonso Caramazza, Professor at Harvard University and ERA Chair CogBooster holder, who has been collaborating with FPCEUC; Jorge Almeida, lecturer and researcher at the University of Coimbra and coordinator of CogBooster at UC; Paul Downing, Bangor University (United Kingdom); Mel Goodale, Western University (Canada); Zoe Kourtzi, University of Cambridge (United Kingdom); Angelika Lingnau, University of Regensburg (Germany); and Isabel Pavão Martins, University of Lisbon.
