The Marine and Environmental Sciences Centre (MARE) and the Associated Laboratory Aquatic Research Network (ARNET) of the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra (FCTUC) is organising a walk along the River Fornos (Torre de Vilela) on 18 October, at 3 p.m., open to the entire community.
The event, organised by the Freshwater Ecology group of MARE/ARNET (the future Aquatic Research Network) at FCTUC, is held under the OneAquaHealth project, coordinated by researcher Maria João Feio.
“Our goal is to involve the local community by encouraging people to discover and learn about this watercourse, which plays such an important role for Coimbra and its biodiversity. We also want to hear the stories and memories of those who have lived by the stream, highlighting the connection between people and this ecosystem,” said the expert from the FCTUC Department of Life Sciences.
During the activity, participants will have the opportunity to test a new citizen science app developed under the OneAquaHealth project. The app aims to promote the conservation of urban rivers and streams while supporting the monitoring of One Health risks through citizens’ contributions.
More information about the project is available on the official website.
