Starting today, the show Fado, Song of Coimbra at Casa das Caldeiras will be performed daily at 5 p.m. at Casa das Caldeiras, in partnership with the University of Coimbra.

“The idea is that this place becomes the go-to venue for anyone visiting the University who wants to experience Fado de Coimbra,” said Nuno Botelho, managing partner of Casa das Caldeiras, during the project presentation on 7 July.

The show is now part of the UC Tourism programme; Tickets (€15) can be purchased from the Colégio de Jesus shop at the University of Coimbra, open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., or directly from Casa das Caldeiras.

The University of Coimbra’s Vice-Rector for Heritage, Buildings and Tourism, Alfredo Dias, said the initiative will “enrich and diversify the offer available to tourists visiting the University, celebrating and promoting this vital part of our intangible heritage.”

Nuno Botelho, who is also a musician, adds that the performance seeks to blend various elements: “We’re including song lyrics translated into English, French, Spanish and Mandarin so that people can grasp their meaning more easily,” he explains.
