Portugal and Mexico – United through Art and Values
UC welcomed the Mexican Ambassador, Bruno Figueroa, for the presentation of 'Mexico-Portugal: A Shared Sea' and the opening of Miguel Milló’s photography exhibition.
At the presentation of the book “Mexico-Portugal: A Shared Sea”, the UC Vice-Rector for External Relations and Alumni, João Nuno Calvão da Silva, described the book as an “unprecedented” work highlighting the values that unite the two countries: tolerance, respect, human rights and democracy.
Ambassador Bruno Figueroa emphasised the book’s references to writers such as Octavio Paz, Mário Cesariny and Fernando Pessoa. Fernando León García, President of CETYS University, which published the book, also attended the event.
Delfim Leão, UC Vice-Rector for Culture, Communication and Open Science, speaking on behalf of the Rector, praised the book’s title: “In that sea, the vessel we navigate is precisely the sharing of common principles and values.”
After the book presentation, it was time for the opening of the photography exhibition "A Vida entre Batidas" by contemporary Mexican artist Miguel Milló. Paulo Trincão, Director of UC Exploratório, highlighted that the exhibition places the Centre “at the forefront of scientific outreach and world-class photography.”
Milló, known for his poetic and visually striking work focused on the female figure, conveys timeless messages through his distinctive photographic language.
The exhibition will be on display for the coming months at the Science Photo Gallery of UC Exploratório.
