SASUC to bring flavour once again to Coimbra Medieval Banquet
The Social Services of the University of Coimbra are back as partners for the Medieval Banquet, Portugal's oldest medieval historical reenactment event.
The Coimbra Medieval Fair opens on Friday, 18 July at 6 pm with the market inauguration, followed by a performance by the Almanach Company recreating the arrival of King Dinis and Queen Isabel at the castle. The Medieval Banquet, already fully booked, takes place at 8 pm in the cloisters of the Old Cathedral, featuring a menu prepared by SASUC using ingredients typical of the medieval period.
This banquet combines history, gastronomy and entertainment, with reenactments such as the welcoming of pilgrims, fire theatre, and the patrol of the city guards. The menu includes bread, pies, fish, cheeses, roasted meats, soups, migas, stews, traditional desserts, and medieval drinks.
The 2025 edition runs from 18 to 20 July in Coimbra’s historic upper town (Alta), a UNESCO World Heritage site, featuring royal processions, tournaments, workshops, street performances, and concerts at various landmark locations throughout the city.
The event is organised by Coimbra City Council, in partnership with the Diocese of Coimbra, APBC, SASUC, the National Museum of Machado de Castro, the Coimbra Hotel and Tourism School, and União das Freguesias de Coimbra.
