Alexandre Matias Correia, a PhD candidate in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Coimbra (UC) and researcher at UC’s Intelligent Energy Systems, part of the Institute of Systems and Robotics, will be the guest speaker of Science Beer Talks on 15 October.
His talk, “A Microgrid on Every Corner,” explores how microgrids can ensure power supply during critical or disaster situations, particularly in facilities with essential services such as hospitals, emergency infrastructures, airports, or military installations.
During the session, the researcher will explain how the inherently decentralised nature of microgrid technology means any home can be converted into a microgrid, extending the benefits to residential areas for personal use with minimal adaptations and controlled costs.
Launched in 2016 in partnership with the Interdisciplinary Research Institute of UC (IIIUC) and Cervejaria Praxis, the Science Beer Talks series offers informal monthly discussions on science and innovation, held on the third Wednesday of each month, from 6 pm to 7 pm.
