The University of Coimbra Bacteria Culture Collection (UCCCB) has officially joined the United States Culture Collection Network (USCCN) registry, the U.S. public registry of microbial collections, on 17 June. Researchers, industrial partners and collection managers can connect and work together using this searchable database platform.

USCCN brings together scientists working with laboratory-based collections of microbes, with the mission to facilitate the safe and responsible use of microbial resources for research, education, industry, medicine and agriculture, providing opportunities for U.S. culture collection professionals to interact and engage with the wider culture collection community worldwide.

With this membership, the UCCCB aims to increase its visibility, connect with other collections and industry leaders, participate in the Census of Microbes (which documents the diversity and scope of microbial collections), and support research and innovation in the development of new microbe-based solutions.

The University of Coimbra Bacteria Culture Collection is coordinated by Paula Vasconcelos Morais (Department of Life Sciences, CEMMPRE).
