In September 2024, the Sustainable Development Office of the University of Coimbra (UC) challenged the academic community to commit to an action supporting one of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), either by changing a daily habit or setting a specific goal.

The guide Your Sustainable Path—Positive Footprint was created to help define this commitment. It offers guidelines and suggestions for individual actions and initiatives that contribute to achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and is available online at https://www.uc.pt/en/sustainability/documentation/

The 91 "pledges" received were written on seed paper. They will be sown in the Botanical Garden of the University of Coimbra (JBUC) on 2 April at 2:30 p.m., helping to increase the number of wildflowers in the garden and contributing to biodiversity conservation. The entire academic community is invited to participate in this event and help with the planting by registering through this link.

Until the planting day, the pledges will be on public display in the Jacaranda Courtyard, next to the JBUC tropical greenhouse, from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm. The exhibition was set up with the help of JBUC student volunteers.

This initiative aims to engage the academic community, particularly students, by highlighting their role in the University's institutional commitment to sustainable development, while also raising awareness of UC's commitment to sustainable development within the academic community.
