To celebrate its 30th anniversary, UC Exploratório – Centro Ciência Viva da Universidade de Coimbra (Live Science Centre) is holding a special commemorative event on Wednesday, 10 December at 12 noon in its auditorium.

The event will feature the President of Ciência Viva – National Agency for Scientific and Technological Culture, Rosália Vargas; the Rector of the University of Coimbra, Amílcar Falcão; the Mayor of Coimbra, Ana Abrunhosa; the Secretary of State for Science, Technology and Innovation, Helena Canhão; and the Director of UC Exploratório, Paulo Trincão.

“We are celebrating three decades of promoting and sharing science and scientific culture — a commitment that UC Exploratório reaffirms at this moment of celebration and carries forward into the future. We would like to thank everyone who has made, and continues to make, UC Exploratório possible, as well as our many friends, visitors and partners, for the journey we have shared together.”

A space dedicated to promoting science and scientific culture, UC Exploratório offers activities for all audiences. Established in 1995, it was the first interactive science centre created in Portugal, in close connection with the University of Coimbra. It is also part of the National Network of Ciência Viva Centres, established in 1998.

Located in Coimbra’s Mondego Green Park, UC Exploratório is housed in a two-building site that includes a planetarium with 360º hemispheric projection. Over its three decades of activity, it has built a wide-ranging presence in the city and across the country — and increasingly reaching an international audience — with a clear and crucial mission: to promote and disseminate scientific culture.
