Pro-Rector Patrícia Pereira da Silva shared experiences and examples carried out at the UC in the field of sustainability.
A delegation from the University of Coimbra (UC), led by the Pro-Rector for Sustainability and Planning, Patrícia Pereira da Silva, is attending the 14th Annual Conference of the Forum for Higher Education Management in Portuguese-speaking Countries and Regions (FORGES), which is being held at the Polytechnic University of Macau until tomorrow (Thursday 28th).
The FORGES conferences bring together lecturers, researchers, and other representatives from higher education institutions in Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Macao, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe, and East Timor. They aim to strengthen ties between the academic communities of the various Portuguese-speaking countries and foster reflection on key issues shaping higher education, creating a platform for cooperation, exchange, learning, and research. This 14th edition is dedicated to the theme "Innovation for Development in Portuguese-speaking Countries and Regions."
Pro-Rector Patrícia Pereira da Silva delivered a presentation on "Sustainable Development: The Case of the University of Coimbra," highlighting examples of the work carried out by of the UC Sustainable Development Office, and the Sustainable Development Observatory. These two bodies lead numerous initiatives focused on sustainability and aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
"UC's presence at the 14th Annual Conference of the FORGES Network is particularly rewarding, not only because we were invited to share our experience and efforts in the field of sustainability—an achievement that reflects our international recognition—but also because it provides an opportunity to consolidate partnerships and learn from the best practices of other institutions in regions so different from our own," the Pro-Rector said.
The 15th FORGES conference will be held in East Timor in 2025. It will be co-organised by the National University of Timor Lorosa'e, the St John Paul II Catholic University of East Timor and the University of Dili.
