On 20 February, the University of Coimbra (UC) will host a public session for the presentation of the "Report on the State of the Application of New Technologies: Neurotechnologies." The event, organised by the National Ethics Council for Life Sciences (CNECV), will take place from 14:30 to 17:00 at the Colégio da Trindade Auditorium (Faculty of Law) and will feature contributions from various UC professors and researchers.

"In an era marked by technological revolutions, the issue of neurotechnologies and their potential ethical implications is of growing importance. Despite significant advances in recent decades, the human brain remains one of the greatest mysteries. Among emerging technologies, neurotechnologies stand out for their potential to bring about transformative changes in society. Regulating this field, which combines neuroscience and technology, is becoming increasingly urgent," say the organisers of the event, which aims to spark an in-depth discussion on the topic.

The session will begin with opening speeches by UC Rector Amílcar Falcão and CNECV President Maria do Céu Patrão Neves, followed by a panel discussion with UC experts, including professors and researchers Miguel Castelo-Branco, Joana Carvalho, Cristina Marquez and Gonçalo D. Santos, moderated by CNECV members João Ramalho-Santos (also UC Vice-Rector) and Inês Santos. There will then be a debate with the audience, and the organisers hope that "the report will be further enriched by the contributions from the public meeting".

Final comments and closing remarks will be made by CNECV Vice-President André Dias Pereira (also a UC lecturer and researcher).
