The University of Coimbra (UC) has just received the bronze prize at the 11th edition of the Social Responsibility and Sustainability Practices Awards, an initiative promoted by the Portuguese Association for Business Ethics (APEE) as part of Social Responsibility Week.

The University of Coimbra (UC) participates annually in Ethics and Compliance Week, a global initiative celebrated between 1 and 7 November under the auspices of the United Nations.

In 2024, one of UC’s initiatives was the launch of a cross-disciplinary course on ethics, offered as optional or supplementary training for all integrated degree programmes at the university. The course will be available from the 2025/2026 academic year.

The training is aimed at students, staff, and members of the wider community, providing an opportunity to develop and strengthen skills essential for professional life in public and private organisations, as well as for broader civic engagement. Recognising the innovative nature and relevance of the initiative, UC submitted its application to the 11th edition of Recognition of Social Responsibility and Sustainability Practices Awards, and was honoured with the bronze prize.

The opening session of Social Responsibility Week 2025 featured a speech by UC Vice-Rector for Planning, Sustainability, and Quality, Patrícia Pereira da Silva.
