Innovation Disclosure
In order for innovative research results to be valued, it is essential that researchers communicate them to UC Business, by sending the IDF.
Communication of R&D Results
Communicating the R&D results will help UC Business to start the process of preliminary assessment of the potential for valuing innovation and its protection through Intellectual Property (IP) rights.
This communication must be made before any disclosure of the results, so as not to compromise their valuation. In addition, disclosure to UC Business is confidential and is not considered a public disclosure under patent law. A disclosure to someone or any entity outside the University of Coimbra is considered a public disclosure, unless a confidentiality agreement has been entered into.
Resources
To this end, UC Business requests the completion of an Invention Communication Form/Invention Disclosure Form (IDF) - Im0046 - Invention disclosure, which should describe the innovation and the circumstances of its development. The communication also identifies potential applications, which companies may be interested in them, and whether this information is already in the public domain. The completed form must be sent to UC Business via e-mail: ucbusiness.pi@uc.pt
Filling in the IDF can be aided by researching the state of the art/technique associated with the invention, by consulting documents in the Database on Invention Patents and Utility Models, such as:
