Step by Step is a peer-to-peer tutoring programme, created by students for students, with the mission of promoting academic success, inclusion, and the reduction of student drop-out.
Through a network-based platform, the student community is consulted in order to identify potential needs and challenges, and is supported by tutors who provide assistance in specific academic and socio-emotional areas.

Why Become a Tutor?

The Tutor plays a fundamental role in the success of the programme. They are responsible for supporting and guiding their peers in building a successful academic and personal pathway.

Being a Tutor involves assuming responsibility and showing empathy towards others, as well as providing feedback to the programme’s management team regarding the tutoring process.

As a student Tutor, you will also have access to free training, allowing you to develop transferable skills that are valuable across the University of Coimbra.

What Is the Role of the Tutor?

  • To develop the skills needed to respond effectively to the needs of tutee(s);

  • To build a personalised and supportive relationship with tutee(s);

  • To support student(s) throughout the tutoring process;

  • To inform the programme coordination team of any difficulties that may arise.

By volunteering in the Step by Step programme, you may be eligible to have this activity recognised in your Diploma Supplement. Please consult the regulations for further details.
