Cancer survival rates have been increasing in the last years. Clinical intervention is now not only focused in the life preservation, but also in the promotion of quality of life. Taking into account that cancer treatments can cause patients’ future infertility and that parenthood is reported as important by cancer survivors, there has been an increasing interest in the fertility preservation techniques, namely those for female cancer patients.

However, there is lack of information in the existing literature about the complex decision-making process regarding fertility preservation, its impact in survivorship, and the practices of the oncologists regarding this decision.

The present research project aims to examine and understand the decision-making process of female cancer patients regarding their fertility preservation and the impact of this decision in their individual adaptation in survivorship. Moreover, it aims to describe the practices of the Portuguese oncologists regarding fertility preservation, as these seem to be important for the patients’ decision.
