The 1st MIA Portugal Spring School on Aging

The Alliance for Healthy Aging Minisymposium on Stem Cells in Aging and Metabolism

Population aging is one of the biggest challenges of our century. At the same time, understanding its biological basis it offers huge opportunities in preventive medicine and health care.

The Alliance for Healthy Aging organises collaboration and scientific exchange between the aging research centres at Mayo Clinic, Groningen University, Newcastle University and Copenhagen University, aiming at translation of biological knowledge of aging towards interventions that improve healthy aging. The Multidisciplinary Institute for Ageing (MIA Portugal) at Coimbra is the first institute in Southern Europe devoted to the same goal.

Together, AHA and MIA Portugal are proud to offer an exceptional training opportunity for graduate students and young scientists interested in aging. You will be introduced to major issues in translational science of aging and hear presentations of cutting-edge science. You will be able to discuss your research with leading figures in the field and to interact with your peers from European countries and the US.

To apply, please submit an abstract (title, authors with presenter underlined, main text not more than 300 words) before January 28, 2022.

Participants will be selected on the basis of abstract quality. All selected participants will be requested to present a poster, a small number of abstracts will be selected for oral presentation. The program will provide ample time (both formal and informal) for discussion of both posters and oral presentations.

This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 857524.

The MIA Portugal Ageing Spring School and the Minisymposium on Stem Cells in Aging and Metabolism are traditional face-to-face events, to be held in Coimbra (Portugal). The organisation is following the pandemic evolution and, if protection measures are imposed, will decide on a hybrid/online event. That decision will consider the general health recommendations and will be notified to all participants in late February 2022.
