Síntese do Projeto: Proposed project will be aimed at complex and systematic study of the effect of chemical substitution and epitaxial strain on the crystal structure and physical properties of the model ABO3-structure materials (BiFeO3, hexagonal and orthorhombic RMnO3; R=rare-earth) representing main multiferroic classes. Analysis of coupling between the chemical/epitaxial pressure and structural, ferroelectric, magnetic, electromechanical, and magnetoelectric behavior of the compounds under study will be performed. Key factors underlying advanced multiferroic properties will be revealed. The ways permitting desirable multiferroic behavior to be achieved will be proposed. Prototypes of the developed materials-based magnetoelectric devises will be presented.
