BlueWave - Ocean: Earth's lung - education towards a BLUE society and promotion of WelfAre attentiVEness and consciousness of the Sea

Objetivo temático: Project "BlueWave Ocean: Earth's lung education towards a BLUE society and promotion of WelfAre attentiveness and consciousness of the Sea", proposes to develop activities that promote Ocean Literacy in Portuguese schools of the "Blue Schools" network or that are in process of being part of the network, covering a vast area of Portugal (including islands). The activities are directed to secondary school students, as it has been identified that these students are less involved in environmental themes and issues, especially when comparing to lower teaching grades. Mobilizing and stimulating these young generations to a political activity in society is important, as they begin to have greater intervention ability. Thus, the project intends to implement activities that will bring student closer to science and political intervention in the civil society, through the realization of a number of actions. Among these, educational sessions in schools, on the key-aspects concerning Ocean Literacy and providing teachers with training to effectively include such aspects in the educational programs will be implemented. Moreover, beach cleaning campaigns and Blue Entrepreneurship Ideas Contests will be developed to promote students' action taking towards actively participating in the solution of issues related to the ocean, namely pollution and sustainable resources exploitation, as well as promote contact with local communities, the sea sector, NGOs and local government entities. Finally, implementation of the project BlueWave will end with a Dissemination Event, with the participation of the project members, participating schools, entities connected to the sea, stakeholders and the project's External Consultant. The event intends to promote sharing of experiences' by the projects' participants, the announcement of the contests' winners, to promote a cleaning action in a local community site and diffusion of the projects' sustainability to the future.
